Thanks CLIP
Honestly I cannot believe it. I started CLIP last year in 1B level and I did not know how to write a sentence in English; after one year working hard in the program I grew up, I finished and jump to Eng 101, the peak. Thanks to my teachers, Doug, Collette and Jon, whose helped me and whose push me to learn and to write and to read, for they now I’m feel successful; but a little afraid. I’m going to start College in March; I know that this is only the beginning; however I start to climb the mountain, the most difficult part and that is the building of my future.

The Top Three Most Important Events in my Life
“Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans,” said John Lennon. Many events occur in your life- proceedings that you forget and others that you remember all the time. These events may have made an important mark in you, sometimes they were awful and sometimes they were enjoyable. For me the things that I want to keep in mind were important incidents that in one or another way opened a door in my life and made me happy. Three events that are the top most important for me were, when I moved from Dominican Republic to New York City, my sister birthdays, and when my best friend got pregnant.
I moved from Dominican Republic to New York City on March 3, 2006. It was a significant change in my life. In Dominican Republic I was in college studying business with a part time job as a lawyer’s assistant, and I had a lot of friends. I never thought about moving to another country. Also I did not know anything about New York. My family had been planning to travel since I was eleven years old, but the process to get all the legal documents was completed many years later. “Make your decision,” my parents told me. “We are all going together, and it is going to be the best option for our future,” they said. So I made the choice. I stopped my college career, and I spoke with my boss and friends. They were happy but at the same time melancholy. The day of the flight was the saddest day in my life. Leaving my house, my neighborhood, my cat, my friends was so hard for me. I knew that nothing would be the same, and it was right. When I came to New York the environment, the language, the money and the weather were so different and complicated. Dominican Republic is a Caribbean country, the weather does not change so much. The weather in New York changes so drastically; if it is winter, it is really cold, and if it is summer, it is really hot. However the mouths suddenly vanished. Now almost three years later I know that my parents had the reason for moving. it was complicated in the beginning, but The United States offer us an enhanced life with better jobs and a good education.
Not only was moving to New York important in my life, my sister birthdays are too. Yincely is one year younger than me. She was born in August 1985. We have the same taste in clothes and music, and we have the same friends. She is so beautiful and I love her so much. Making her happy produces the same effect in me. Sometimes I thought that if she was not here, my life would be a disaster. She gives her support all the time and she is always with me. My life would not be complete without her. The mouth before of her birthday I always begin to make a plan for her surprise party. I look for ideas in Internet and I visited all the party stores secretly. It is not difficult to make a plan because her birthday is in the summer and we love the beach. So the last year the celebration was in Robert Moses Park in Long Island, NY, and it was a Hawaiian party with all the decorations and food and drinks were based on Hawaiian culture. It was great and she enjoyed it so much and it made me so happy. Every year I wait impatiently for her birthday.
More than my moving to New York and my sister birthdays, another important event in my life was when my best friend got pregnant. Esperanza is two year older than me. She lives in Dominican Republic and she always was with me when I needed her. When I cried for a failed test in the school or when I was sick. When she got married I could not go to the celebration because I was here in New York, but I was so happy. Her dreams was always to get married and to have a baby; however things did not seem good in the beginning. She had many problems to getting pregnant. She had to visit the doctor many times and each time she called me before hand to give her support, but at the end the result was always the same: no baby. Finally after a medical treatment she got pregnant and I was so glad for her. That day I felt like it was me who had a baby. Now her baby is my baby too. I feel like part of her family.
Like John Lennon said the things that happens while we are doing another things are what really important. We live through the experiences that we have with other people that we love. That happened to me. The important events in my life were moments that I shared with my family and my friends. What The Ten-Year-Old Me Would Tell Me If She Could See Me Now
If you could go back to the past to make some changes in your life, what things would you change? Maybe some decisions, jobs or relationships. I know that everyone at one time or another has thought about it. I did it; however, why do we want to change events in the past? It is because that change will make something different, better or worse. It is impossible to know how our life will be if we could change moments in the past. I think that the events that happen just have to happen; that is how life works. You have to make mistakes to learn from them. But if I could meet myself when I was ten years old to see me now when I am twenty four years old, we would talk about love. We would talk about how living in New York City has changed my life and how my business dreams are going.
The ten-year-old me would discuss with me the issue of love. Why are you single? She would ask me. What happened to the idea that you had to be married at twenty years old? I would tell her that life, when I was her age, was so different than how it is now. At her age I used to dream about a big house with many trees, with a luxury car and a husband. But over the past years I have learned that things are not as I thought when I was young. The world changes and with it people. I met my first love when I was fourteen years old, and all was good, but he moved to New York, and that was the end of that. Then when I was eighteen years old, I started college and I met a lot of people. One of them was my second love, who was very kind but ten years older than me. He was such a nice gentleman. I met his family and he met mine. The problem was that I was too young and he wanted to get married. I almost accepted, but before I said yes I ran into my third boyfriend. It was love at first sight. One of my friends introduced him to me and since that day I could not stop thinking of him. In the beginning we were friends but later we could not be separate. The relationship was great and lasted two years until I moved from Dominican Republic to New York City. I have been living here two and a half years. So I am not really lonely at all. I would tell her that those events that happened just happened; I could not do anything about it. Love is an enigma.
The ten-year-old me would ask me about love; moreover, she would ask me about how living in New York City has changed my life. If somebody had told me when I was ten years old that I was going to live in New York, I would have thought that he or she was crazy. The idea never crossed my mind; I was too young and that happened eleven years later. However she would be proud of me. I used to be shy and timid and now I feel like I can deal with anything that I have to. In my country I did not work; my parents gave all that I needed. When my family and I came here we did not have a house or job. Also our parents were too busy to help us to find a job and an apartment. So I decided that we together could go on. I looked for job and we found at apartment and later I went to school to learn English. Living here has made me strong and determined, and the ten-year- old me would be surprise by my development in life. It was possible because this country requires that each person do things for themselves. However you have to work hard to obtain what you want.
Love and how my life had changed after I moved to New York are some issues that the ten-year-old me would discuss with me; furthermore she would ask me about my business dreams. I always wanted to be a business woman, with a suit and an elegant office. I dreamed of being an administrator in a bank or in a huge important company. In my way home after school I used to pass a bank and see how the women there looked and the things that they were doing. I was fascinated by the business world. Then when I was the able age of twenty, I started my business career in Dominican Republic but I could not finish because I move to NY. So I transferred to LaGuardia Community College in NY. It is what I have really wanted since I was ten years old. I would tell her not to worry about it; I am working on it. I am studying English, the language requires attending college in New York, and soon I will be able to continue and terminate my business career, and get y degree.
No one can change the past in order to make changes in their future; however, if the ten-year-old me would come to the present and see how my life is going, she would be happy. The things that happened regarding love had to happen; there was nothing that I could do about it. It was destiny. My life, since I moved from Dominican Republic has changed very well and she would be pleased by me. I am stronger and prepared to deal with the adversities of the life. About my business dreams she would understand my position and would believe that I am going to pursue my dreams.

Would you rather be rich and have no free time or struggle with money but have loads of free time? I prefer work with money because nobody can live happy without diversion or hobbies. The money is necessary but is more important have relaxed time.
If you were a boss, would your rather be liked or feared? I think both because you need to imply fear but at the same time kindness for get the respect and control of the workers.
Do you prefer to dress nicely or comfortably? Both, nice and comfortable. And it is possible.
Would you ever get a tattoo? Do you have one? I love it. I think it is sexy and it is a way to express myself. I have one and I think to make me another one.
Who is the most influential person in your life? Is my sister because I observe her behaviors and I learned through them.
Do you prefer the excitement of a new relationship or the comfort of a long relationship? I prefer the comfort of a long relationship. I like the stability.

How has Music Influence in my Life
Music saves my soul. If you think that music is only music, you are wrong. Everybody in one or another way listens to music, while they are driving, in bars, on TV or using their iPod. It is something that has its own life. Even if you do no care for it, music will still be with you and surround you. However people do not only listen to music, they feel it. Music in my life is like mi exit to another world. It influences my life in many ways. It affects my feelings, my connection with my friends and the music push me to get me a tattoo.
Music has a tremendous impact on my emotions. When I feel sad, alone or angry, I listen to music and it make me feel better. Music, house music, a style of electronic dance music influence by elements of soul, funk and disco music style, in special, gives me a sensation of safety and peace. It is like it flows through my veins for all my body until my brain. Sometimes I come home from work, tired, stressed, and I play some of my songs and suddenly the heavy day of work disappears. Another way that music impacts my emotions is when I am going to a party o a bar, I have to listen to music before to go to boost my adrenaline and be ready to enjoy the party. Last Saturday I went to a bar in Brooklyn, NY, a finished work at 10:00 P.M. and I was I little tired so before I took a shower I played loud a song call “Grindhouse” by Radio Slave feat Danton Emprom, and it gave energy. With music all my feelings stay under control.
More than affecting my feelings, music influences the connection with my friends. Everyone who knows me knows that if they need a song or a CD they can get it from me. I know how find whatever my fiends want. However when they ask me to make them a CD, it does not matter if they want merengue, a ballroom dance, or salsa, Latin American dance music, mix, I include one or two of my house songs an later they end up liking it. My friends always remember me when they are in a bar and a house song comes on because they know that is my music and they know that I live through it, that I enjoy that music like no one.
My feelings and the connection with my friends are not the only thing that the music sways, it push me to make me a tattoo. I always wanted a tattoo, and I spent months looking for it. It is a difficult step to take because a tattoo is something that is going to be with you the rest of your life. I think that everyone who has one has to have a meaning for it, and I needed my first one to be important. That is why I choose three musical notes for my design. All things about music motive me, is like I identify myself with songs and lyrics. I love that entire thing that has to be with music. All time that I see my tattoo is like if I am listening music and it makes me really happy. Music is something really important for me, it is like a husband who is with me every time I need him.
Music, especially house music, influences my life in many ways. It saves my soul, if I feel melancholy music cure me. When I need energy or I am not feel very well, I listen to music, it gives me a sweet breath. My friends know that I am a music library and they love it. And I made my first tattoo for have the music more close to myself. For me music is the immediate remedy for any illness that I have.

Last Saturday I went to a bar in Brooklyn, NY, a finished work at 10:00 P.M. and I was I little tired so before I took a shower I played loud a song call “Grindhouse” by Radio Slave feat Danton Emprom, and it gave energy. With music all my feelings stay under control.
More than affecting my feelings, music influences the connection with my friends. Everyone who knows me knows that if they need a song or a CD they can get it from me. I know how find whatever my fiends want. However when they ask me to make them a CD, it does not matter if they want merengue, a ballroom dance, or salsa, Latin American dance music, mix, I include one or two of my house songs an later they end up liking it. My friends always remember me when they are in a bar and a house song comes on because they know that is my music and they know that I live through it, that I enjoy that music like no one.
My feelings and the connection with my friends are not the only thing that the music sways, it push me to make me a tattoo. I always wanted a tattoo, and I spent months looking for it. It is a difficult step to take because a tattoo is something that is going to be with you the rest of your life. I think that everyone who has one has to have a meaning for it, and I needed my first one to be important. That is why I choose three musical notes for my design. All things about music motive me, is like I identify myself with songs and lyrics. I love that entire thing that has to be with music. All time that I see my tattoo is like if I am listening music and it makes me really happy. Music is something really important for me, it is like a husband who is with me every time I need him.
Music, especially house music, influences my life in many ways. It saves my soul, if I feel melancholy music cure me. When I need energy or I am not feel very well, I listen to music, it gives me a sweet breath. My friends know that I am a music library and they love it. And I made my first tattoo for have the music more close to myself. For me music is the immediate remedy for any illness that I have.

Censorship in the Arts
Since the art, movie, music and information history have begun governments, religious authorities and self-appointed authorities of morality have tried to regulate what society can read, watch, write, listen to and believe. That regulation is called censorship. According to Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia, “Censorship is the suppression of speech of deletion of commutative material that may be considered objectionable, harmful, or sensitive as determined by a censor.” Many things can be censored but my interest is about the censorship in the arts and with that in mind I chose a film, a song and an album cover that were all censored. However I disagree with censorship when it stops art and freedom.
One censored film was “Scarface,” an America film directed by Howard Hawks in 1932. Scarface is based on the life of Al Capone, a gangster, and police interference over control of a city. The original version of the film was completed in September 8, 1931, but censors did not permit its released until March of 1932. Scarface was censored by the State Film Censorship including the New York State Board, because it glorified the gangster lifestyle and it showed too much violence. Many of its scenes were edited and Howard Hawks had to add the subtitle “The Shame of the Nation" to go by the censor. However, this version still did not satisfy some censors. So the director denied this edited version and released the original in the states that did not have the strict censors. The original 1932 version was finally released in the U.S. in May 22, 2005. I have not watched the movie but I think every people have to understand, regardless of the era, that one film is a film, it is no real. If the movie shows violence it is fiction, no one has to follow or believe the film message. I disagree with this censorship for the last reason.
The 1930s was an epoch when the censorship causes controversy. Not only films were censored, songs too were subject to censoring. “Love For Sale” is a song by Cole Porter. It is from the musical “The New Yorkers,” which opened on Broadway on December 8, 1930. “Love For Sale” was censored in 1930 by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) because it was about prostitution, and gave the message that prostitution was acceptable. The song was originally considered scandalous that it was banned from radio airplay until 1931 but then became a hit, a guess because when something is prohibited the people tend to do it or want it. Some of its lyrics include “If you want to buy my wares, follow me and climb the stairs, love for sale." I disagree with the censors because each singer or writer has the right to express what they think. It does not mean that you have to approve the message of the song. In this case the song is about something that is real and happens. It not implies that you have to support what the song said.
Censorships were and remain common in films, songs and album covers. One of them was “Virgin Killer.” It is the fourth studio album by the Scorpions, a German heavy metal band. The original cover showed a naked ten year old girl, named Jaqueline, with crushed glass effect hiding her genitals, used as a symbol of the lyrics. The album was released in 1976 and caused controversy in the U.S. and in the United Kingdom, as a result the album could only be sold in black plastic. However, the image stirred up controversy in December 2008, when the British Internet Watch Foundation put some pages from the Wikipedia on its child-pornography blacklist. Since then, the image has been considered by the United Kingdom law “potentially illegal,” but the decision was reversed by the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) after four days of blocking it. Administrators of Wikipedia have refused to remove the naked image of the girl because they said, “Wikipedia doesn't censor.” This cover was considered the worst album cover for the Cracked, a discontinued American humor magazine. I differ with censorship most of the case because something that is bad for some people is good for other, if we just censored all that we think is not correct, in the end will be nothing. But when Censorship is about children, we as an adult have to take care of them. I agree with this censorship because it tried to stop children pornography.
In conclusion, many things were censured. “Scarface,” Virgin Killer” and “Love For Sale” are only few examples of them. However many people question how or why censorship is necessary, and how a censor determines what must be censored. Some of the causes of censorship are violence, pornography and prostitution and these are why “Scarface,” Virgin Killer” and “Love For Sale” were censored. I think the censorship is a difficult process that sometimes is necessary to preserve the good of our society. But we have to be careful when we apply it.
